One of the most dangerous spacecraft ever to carry
a load
of deadly plutonium will fly by Earth on Tuesday, August
17, 1999 at 11:28pm(EDT), which is 3:28am on a Wednesday
(Greenwich Mean Time). Wheather or not scientists decide,
would you be prepared?
Two years ago, NASA launched the largest and most
expensive robot controlled spacecraft for a seven year
mission trip to Saturn to study
their moon's rings. Unfortunately, mission officals said that there
are no risk.
At 11:28pm(EDT) Tuesday will use the Earth's
gravity to change the probe's direction
and speed relative
to the sun. The probe is carrying
a record amount of 72.3 of deadly plutonium on board and expected to reach
Earth
at a deadly record speeds of 42,000mph.
The southern hemisphere would be at greater risk if one of the scientist's
prediction will hold true.
In addiction to NASA Environmental Impact statement, the event of the space probe collision is almost 95 percent from the radation of plutonium. It's more like a Three Mile Island catastrophe, or even worse, a nuclear attack!
Would the world end?
According to the scientist, no. There is less
likely that Cassini
will have no risk of coming closer to the Earth's atmosphere.
However. the mission has the ability to expose to two billion
people, same as a comet or an asteroid strike, or even a nuclear
attack.
Can I view Cassini using a telescope?
No, unless the scientist have to use a very
advanced telescope
to capture the picture of a Cassini flying by Earth. Of course, you
cannot see it with a naked eye!
When did the Cassini launched?
October 15, 1997.
What is Cassini's misson to Saturn?
To study Saturn's rings.
Cassini
Radar
A radar instrument to study the study Saturn's largest Moon, Titan.
Cassini
Voyage to Saturn
Has mission updates about the space probe from NASA.
